Wie kent de eerste regel van het Limburgs volkslied niet.

Alleen zingt het nachtegaaltje niet meer zoveel en leggen ook eiken massaal het loodje. Gelukkig kunnen we het lied wel nog zingen en is Limburg nog steeds betoverend mooi!

‘Limburg mijn Vaderland’, ook wel ‘Waar in ‘t bronsgroen eikenhout’ genoemd, is het officiële Limburgse volkslied, geschreven door onderwijzer Gerard Krekelberg in 1909. De melodie is gecomponeerd door Hendrik (Henri) Tijssen uit Roermond. Het lied heette aanvankelijk “Limburg, mijn vaderland”.

Het lied wordt tegenwoordig gezien als volkslied van zowel Nederlands- als Belgisch-Limburg.
